Before moving day

The parking permit most people don't know about.

This is the thing that catches people out in Bournemouth. If your street has residents' parking or a loading restriction, a removal van can't simply turn up and sit there for the day. BCP Council runs a scheme for exactly this, and it's called something different in each of the three towns.

In Bournemouth it's the Contractors parking dispensation. In Christchurch it's the Tradesmen parking dispensation scheme, and in Poole it's a daily parking waiver. Same idea, three different names and three different forms - which is why it's worth sorting before the day rather than on it.

  • Apply at least three days before your move
  • Issued for a maximum of two weeks at a time
  • It's a virtual permit, so there's no paper to collect
  • Short notice? The council has a line for urgent jobs
  • Tell us your street and we'll tell you if you need one

Rules and fees are set by the council, not by us, and they do change. The current details are on BCP Council's contractors parking dispensation page.

Local knowledge

We know which streets need a plan.

Bournemouth isn't one kind of move. What we bring, and how long we allow, depends a lot on where you are.

Victorian terraces

Around Boscombe, Springbourne and Pokesdown, most terraces have no off-street parking and a narrow hallway with a turn at the bottom of the stairs. We bring the smaller van where the street calls for it, and we'll sort the dispensation.

Flats and conversions

Charminster, Winton and the town centre are full of converted flats, plenty of them without a lift. We plan those on stair count rather than mileage, which is the honest way to quote them.

Clifftop and seafront

The East and West Cliff roads, Southbourne and Alum Chine come with narrow access, steep approaches and restricted loading. Worth a look before the day so nobody is improvising on the morning.

Family homes

Talbot Woods, Meyrick Park, Littledown and Queen's Park are mostly straightforward driveway jobs. These are the ones where a full pack the day before earns its money.

Student and short lets

Charminster, Winton and Springbourne turn over quickly around changeover, and most of those are one room rather than a whole house. A man and van early in the day usually beats waiting on a full crew.

Timing and traffic

Wessex Way and the seafront roads slow right down on a warm weekend, and parts of the town centre have their own loading windows. We start early where it helps, and we'll say so if a weekday would go easier.

What we do

The whole move, or just the heavy bit.

Bournemouth questions

The ones we're asked most.

If your street has residents' parking, a loading restriction or a controlled zone, then usually yes - BCP Council calls it a contractors parking dispensation in the Bournemouth area. Apply at least three days ahead. Tell us the street when you book and we'll tell you whether you need one.
All of it, BH1 through BH11 - town centre, Boscombe, Southbourne, Westbourne, Charminster, Winton, Moordown, Ensbury Park, Kinson, Talbot Woods, Littledown and everywhere between. We're based in Poole, so we're rarely more than twenty minutes away.
Yes, and a good part of Bournemouth is exactly that. We quote those on the number of floors rather than the distance, because that's what actually decides the day. Tell us which floor you're on and whether there's a lift, and we'll price it properly first time.
We do. Charminster, Winton and Springbourne keep us busy at changeover, and a lot of those are part loads rather than full houses. If it's one room's worth, a man and van is usually the sensible answer.
